Stefanie Martini stars in 'Prime Suspect' prequel

Stefanie Martini, Sam Reid and Blake Harrison star in the prequel Prime Suspect: 1973. Martini, who has also appeared in Endeavour and Emerald City, will play a 22-year-old Jane Tennison at the start of her career in the Metropolitan Police.

When the body of a teenager is found in an underground car park, probationer WPC Jane Tennison becomes immersed in her first murder investigation.

At home, Jane’s mother voices concerns about Jane’s chosen vocation and wishes she were more like her younger sister Pam, who is about to be married. Determined and ambitious, Jane is adamant she’s going to help catch the killer.

The six-part series is adapted from Lynda La Plante’s bestselling novel Tennison, although the author terminated her involvement half-way through the adaptation. The first episode will air on ITV 1 on 2 March 2017.

Prime Suspect was originally broadcast from 1991 to 2006, with Helen Mirren making DCI (and later Detective Superintendent) Tennison one of TV's most memorable characters.
