Savage Town is a forthcoming graphic novel set in Limerick at the turn of the millennium, and revolves around a gangland criminal called Jimmy "Hardy" Savage.
To be published by Image Comics this September, it was created by graphic artists Declan Shalvey - here taking the writing role - and Philip Barrett.
Originally from Ennis in County Clare, Shalvey is a graduate of Limerick School of Art & Design. He has also worked extensively for Marvel and DC on comics such as Batman and Deadpool. He is Dublin based and scans his artwork over to publishers in the US.
“Most Irish crime books are set in Dublin, and many are about the IRA, and I wanted to avoid those more obvious elements to my first writing project,” he told the Irish Examiner.
